Equality & Diversity
SNH is actively committed to promoting diversity and equality for our employees, the users of our services and in our role as participants in caring for and enjoying Scotland’s natural heritage.
We will seek to take every possible step to ensure that individuals are treated equally and fairly and those decisions on recruitment, selection, training, promotion and career development are based on objective and job-related criteria. We will strive to continually improve our ability to meet the needs of all sectors of the community and to maintaining a culture and philosophy, which recognises and rewards individual achievement and merit regardless of age, colour, disability, ethnic or national origin, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, religion or a deeply held philosophical belief.

Impact Assessment
We have carried out initial impact assessments of our core functions to determine their potential impact on the various strands of equality. The purpose of this assessment was to consider the likelihood of a programme or service impacting on an equality group (either positively or negatively) and the magnitude of the consequence. All programmes and services identified as having a high impact will require a more in depth assessment and will be prioritised in an equality impact assessment schedule for 2008-2011. The requirement to carry out impact assessments will be built into our internal policy making processes, so that the relative implications for all equality groups can be taken into account.
Our Equality schemes are constantly being reviewed, therefore we welcome your comments. This will help us to ensure that we can fully meet the needs of Scotland's people in all our policies and services. We will monitor our action plans continuously, and review our schemes every three years.
