Grant programme
We work with others to protect and improve Scotland’s natural heritage and to help people understand, enjoy and care for it.
The Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP) is the Scottish Government’s main programme for financial support to rural Scotland. It is a £1.6 billion programme of economic, environmental and social measures designed to develop rural Scotland over the six year period from 2007. If you need a grant for your rural project, you should look to see if you and your project are eligible under SRDP before applying to SNH.
From April 2009 SNH will no longer offer grant to Scottish local authorities for the majority of routine and recurring activities we have previously funded.
Scottish Natural Heritage continues to be able to offer grant support for projects not covered by SRDP. We provide grants to a wide range of urban and rural projects that deliver outcomes linked to the SNH Corporate Strategy. If your project can help us meet our strategic objectives, then you can apply to us for a grant.
Our grants programme has eight grant schemes.
If you are seeking a grant from us of less than £10,000, you can apply at any time.
We will assess applications for grants of £10,000 or more in two competitive funding rounds each year. The closing dates are 15 April and 1 September. We encourage applications well before the closing date to give you time to provide any additional information that we may ask you for. If you submit an incomplete or inaccurate application by the closing date we may be unable to assess it in that round.
If you would like further advice you can contact your local SNH office or our Strategic Grants Team by email grants@snh.gov.uk or by phone on 01738 458677.
Forthcoming changes
Please note that SNH is currently reviewing how we deliver grants and our grant application pack will be revised. This will reflect changes to eligibility and priorities that have occurred as a result of SRDP and other SNH and Scottish Government policies.
If you are seeking a grant to help combat Wildlife Crime, we expect to have an additional grant scheme in place by Autumn 2008. Please check these pages or contact grants@snh.gov.uk if you have a project proposal about reducing crime against wildlife.
