LNRs - Places for People and Nature

Declaring an LNR

Local Authorities have exclusive statutory powers to set up and manage LNRs under Section 21 of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. When establishing an LNR, councils consult with SNH who advise on the natural heritage context of the site.
Do you have an area in mind? Then, contact your local council information service or planning department or contact us.

For more information on selection and declaration an LNR, SNH has produced guidance, aimed at Councils, community groups and voluntary organisations. It is available from SNH Publications, Battleby, Redgorton, Perth PH1 3EW, 01738 444177.

Or you can download it from this page to view on acrobat reader.
