LNRs - Places for People and Nature
Managing Local Nature Reserves
In general most Local Nature Reserves are managed by the local authorities with the help from a local management group. Other ways that an LNR could be managed include;
- Developers may hand a sum of money over to a local authority for long term maintenance
- Local Authorities may make arrangements with a suitable third party
- Appropriate funding from local authorities to facilitate a community to manage it themselves
- Local Businesses may contribute to the local open space maintenance
Management Planning Guidance - The Process and the Plan
On this page you will also find examples of management plans. There is no definitive plan and the plans here are available to give guidance and an indication only on what should be included. Each site will have different requirements. The Process and the Plan LNR Management Planning Guidance is a useful first reference.
