Area Manager - John Uttley

John has lived and worked for SNH in Shetland since 1993, memorably starting work the day the Braer grounded off Garth's Ness. He manages SNH's teams in Orkney and Shetland and leads contact with other public bodies in Shetland, including the Community Planning Board and other Scottish Executive organisations.

Prior to joining SNH John graduated in Biology from the University of Durham, gained a PhD from Glasgow University with studies of breeding Arctic terns and their food supply in the late 1980's, and undertook further research on seabirds and sandeels in the early 1990's.
