Coastal & Marine National Parks
At the
end of 2006, the Scottish Government consulted on
proposals to establish a Coastal and Marine National Park.
Following the 2007 election, the new adminsitration
decided not to pursue these proposals. Instead, it intends
to bring forward dedicated legislation to provide for the
better management of the whole of the marine
environment.
Proposals for a Coastal and Marine National Park in Scotland may be revisited once the wider legislative framework is in place. Support from local communities and from fisheries, aquaculture and tourism sectors will be crucial in taking any specific proposal forward.
