Scottish Ministers propose to extend the boundary of the Cairngorms National Park into Perth & Kinross on, or approximately on, the line proposed in John Swinney’s Cairngorms National Park Boundary Bill.

Government has asked us to consult other people and come up with detailed proposals on:

  1. exactly where the new boundary should be;
  2. how many people from each local authority should sit on the Cairngorms National Park Authority Board, taking into account the new boundary.

What will happen next?

This is the timetable for extending the Cairngorms National Park.

March - May 2008
Scottish Ministers make their proposal to extend the Cairngorms National Park into Perth & Kinross, and ask us to prepare a Report.

May – June 2008
We publicise the proposal and investigate the issues.

August – October 2008 
You tell us what you think of our draft recommendations during a 12 week consultation.

November – December 2008
We revise our recommendations and submit our Report to Scottish Ministers

2009 or beyond
Scottish Government consults people on amendment to Cairngorms National Park Designation Order, and you tell them what you think. Then the Scottish Parliament considers revised Cairngorms National Park Designation Order for approval.
